Bertius, Pertus. Abissinorum Imperium, from his Tabularum geographicarum
contratarum (Minature World Atlas) (Amsterdam,1610). An elegant small map of Africa centered

Pemba, Zanzibar, Cosmoledo, and two large lakes in the heart on the
continent. 5 1/4 x 3 3/4 inches, later outline color,

(Paris, c. 1785). Across the top of the sea chart is written, "Carter
des Decouvertes faites N. E. de L'Isle de France dont le Vicomte Grenier....This
is a sea chart of the Chagos with the plotting of voyages in the area by
Grenier (1769), Pitts (1763), Stringer (1712), le Grifin (1749),
l'Aigle (1772), le Grantam (1728), de Surville (1756), etc. 24 x 12

Tallis, John. Islands in the Indian Ocean, from Tallis, The
Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World (London, 1851). Drawn and

There is a detailed inset map of Mauritius as well as five vignettes: Native Village,
Madgascar; Point de Galle, Ceylon; Port Louis, Mauritius; North Beach, Prince of Wales
Island; and Fall of the River Roche, Isle of Bourbon. The Tallis atlas is regarded as one
