404-468 extracted from volume one of John Harris, Navigantium atque
Itinerantium Bibliothjeca; or a Compleat Collection of Voyages and Travels (London,
1705). In the text herein Herbert
describes his travels in 1626-1627 from Dover, down the
West coast of Africa to the Cape, on to Persia, India, and Ceylon,
returning in 1627 via Mauritius and St.
Helena. The text
includes one of the earliest descriptions of the dodo and the plate page
includes his drawing of the dodo. $250

The lithographer for this large detailed map is Edward Weller. The map is
included in the complete issue of the Proceedings of the Royal Geographical
Society (September 1882) which includes an article by Cowan, Geographical
Excursions in South-Eastern Madagascar, pp. 521-537. The issue also includes an
article and accompanying maps on the Shaktu Valley, Wazirstan, which perhaps
should be passed on to U.S. Special Forces.
